Welcome
to RMEC! The only all-inclusive network for homeschooling and unschooling information in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Whether you need info on how and where to begin, or you've been at it for years and just need a bit o' inspiration to keep on truckin', you've come to the right place.
Please keep in mind that this isn't a corporation with memos and let's-do-lunches stuff. It's just one lone homeschooling mom connected to a network of other homeschoolers. Together, we're a regular treasure trove of experience, common sense, nifty ideas -- and humor. Yes, humor. Because home learning is, for the most part, fun. And RMEC isn't your usual homeschooling website.

The Six Lesson Schoolteacher
Teaching means many different things, but six lessons are common to schoolteaching from Harlem to Hollywood. You pay for these lessons in more ways than you can imagine, so you might as well know what they are. By John Taylor Gatto
Cyberspace Changes Everything
What was homeschooling like 'back in the day' before notebook computers, cell phones, text messages, IMs, PMs, blackberries and yes, even Google? In a nutshell: easier. An RMEC article by Cindy Englan.
The Rookie Workshop for New Homeschoolers
I took my wildly popular in-person 3-hour workshop for newcomers and condensed it into an easy to understand, humorous and reassuring online seminar. Attend when it's convenient for you. In the meantime, breathe. If I can do this, so can you.
A Not So Special, Special Night One night I was walking down the road with my sons. It was your typical late August summer night. The weather was just starting to cool off, dogs were barking, and you could hear fans and air conditioners running in the windows.
This night was different though. It was quieter than most summer nights. As we walked along, I noticed there were no children playing in the yards. Then it dawned on me ... tomorrow was the first day of school.
All the children were in bed. Mothers and fathers would be up tending to last minute preparations. To some parents this would carry with it a special significance. This night would signal the end of their children at home. Some parents would be sending their kids to school for the first time.
Perhaps these parents would be thinking about the past 6 years. About the diapers, the terrible twos, and kindergarten. Maybe they would be day-dreaming of the changes that lay ahead. This indeed was a special night for some. To me it was just another evening with my sons. I too, had a son who was entering first grade ... first grade in home school. To me, it was just another late August night.
We slowed our pace a bit. There was no rush to get home. Tomorrow was just another day of learning and living together. I was thankful for the time and all the time to come with my sons.
