Speakers and Workshop Presenters in Colorado
If you're looking for someone to speak at your next
homeschool gathering, these veterans offer
presentations on just about every topic. Educate your
group members on curriculum planning, the law, dual
enrollment, special education needs, setting up
cooperative classes, testing vs evaluations, or what
happens when your child is declared truant. Or,
encourage newcomers that, yes, they CAN do this. Or
re-inspire existing families (you?) who need a little
mental boost this time of year.
Colorado
Field Trips
A long (and growing) list of places to take the kids.
Some you've probably heard of. Others .... I bet not.

The
Changing Nature of Support
Should we be thinking about support groups the way we
always have? Or is that 'old school' thinking? Maybe we
should be envisioning Support 2.0 instead? (Whatever
that might entail.) I've heard support group leaders
lamenting over declining volunteerism, general lack of
interest and how they're running out of energy because
of it. And it's not just happening here. It's
nationwide. What could we, should do, can we, do about
it?
Any ideas? This is posted on my blog, and I'd
love to hear your comments.

Kerry Kantor
is a Homeschool Advocate, private school owner, and
former support group leader. This is how she describes
herself:
"My grand adventure ended in 2006, with the graduation
of my 15 year old son from our homeschool. It is both a
sad and joyous time for me. How can you just stop!? It
is my sincere desire to give back to the homeschooling
community that served me so well, and provide others
with information and resources. I would love to see
others off on their own grand adventure.
We homeschooled for approximately 18 years. My husband
and I settled in Colorado in 1992, courtesy of the
United States Air Force. As you can imagine, the Air
Force provided us with the non-stop adventure of
homeschooling in a variety of states, plus the island
of Guam. My eldest daughter is now in North Dakota, and
our son is at Pikes Peak Community College, both having
graduated from our homeschool at age 15.
My experience includes founding the Secular Homeschool
Support Group (SHSSG) in 1997. I've organized and
taught cooperative classes, and given public seminars
on a variety of homeschooling topics. I've also had the
privilege and joy of organizing homeschool graduation
ceremonies and the prom. I'm also a former Homeschool
Liaison for Colorado Springs School District 11, which
entailed answering questions 'from the other side of
the counter' so to speak, regarding dual enrollment,
transferring homeschool credits to a public school,
district policy and procedures, Special Needs, virtual
academies, and curriculum planning. I have also
participated in sometimes unpleasant arenas, by
testifying in juvenile court during truancy
proceedings, and working with public school attorneys.
I keep a close watch on the news, conversing with state
legislators on issues that could affect homeschooling
in Colorado. Presently I am the Director of the
Colorado Academy of Independent Learners, which is an
Independent Private School for home educators."
